Porsche 911 Carrera RS (964) · 1992–1993

The 964 Carrera RS is Porsche's homologation-special evolution of the Carrera 2: a seam-welded, stripped shell over the M64/03 3.6-liter flat-six making 260 hp, sold in Europe only from late 1991. It is the lightest, purest air-cooled 964 — no US delivery, no sunroof, thinner glass, no rear seats — and the spiritual heir to the 1973 2.7 RS, which underpins its collector standing.

The one to have: Euro-market Lightweight (Sport): M64/03 3.6 flat-six, 260 hp, ~2,712 lb, seam-welded shell, single-mass flywheel, 17-in magnesium Cup wheels — not the softer US RS America.

Know the real one

Identity tell: lightweight seam-welded/spot-reinforced shell, aluminum hood, thinner glass, no sunroof/rear seats, thin door cards with pull-strap releases, Cup wheels.
Production reality: 2,282 built for Europe only — the North American RS America is a separate, heavier, softer car and should not be confused with it.
Spotting a fake: many are Carrera 2s dressed as RS; confirm M64/03 engine number, factory Kardex/build record, and the genuine seam-welded bodyshell.
Spec that matters: stripped Sport (Lightweight) is the one; M002 Touring re-adds ~100 kg of trim, and M003 N/GT/Clubsport is the caged, rarest tier.
