Nissan GT-R (R35) · 2007–2024

The R35 GT-R is a front-engined, AWD 2+2 coupe built around a hand-assembled 3.8L twin-turbo V6 (VR38DETT) driving a rear-mounted dual-clutch transaxle with ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive. Collectors prize it as the giant-killer 'Godzilla' that matched supercar pace for a fraction of the price across a 17-year production run, with values now firming for pristine early launch cars and final-year special editions.

The one to have: A final-year (2024) T-spec: the sendoff trim on the R35, built with the 565 hp VR38DETT, exclusive heritage colours (Millennium Jade or Midnight Purple), Mori Green semi-aniline leather and special-finish forged RAYS wheels. Delivery-mileage examples are the clean bookend to Godzilla's long run and already trade well above their ~$144k MSRP. A pristine, single-owner 2009 launch car is the lower-cost alternative 'one to have'.

Know the real one

Each VR38DETT is hand-built by one of a small team of 'Takumi' master technicians in a clean room, and wears a numbered plaque bearing the builder's name — a genuine engine carries that plaque.
The 'premium midship' layout mounts the twin-clutch gearbox and transfer case at the rear, feeding ATTESA E-TS AWD for near 53/47 balance; this is what separates the R35 from a conventional front-engine coupe.
Output climbed steadily: roughly 480 hp at the 2009 US launch, 530 hp for 2012, 545 hp for 2013, and 565 hp from the 2017 facelift onward, with the range-topping NISMO at 600 PS.
Trim tells: Black Edition and NISMO cars wore gloss-black RAYS wheels, while Premium and T-spec used machined/gunmetal (or T-spec bronze) forged RAYS. Many R35s were heavily tuned or remapped, so unmodified, stock-boost, low-mile cars are the exception and command a premium.
