The Sport Quattro is the short-wheelbase Group B homologation special: an Ur-Quattro coupe shortened by 320 mm, clad in aluminium/Kevlar composite panels, and powered by an all-alloy 2.1-litre 20-valve turbocharged inline-five driving all four wheels. Roughly 214 were built to satisfy Group B's homologation minimum, making it the rarest and most valuable road-going Quattro and the direct ancestor of the works S1 rally cars.
The one to have: A documented, matching-numbers original short-wheelbase Sport Quattro (factory code B2) with the unmodified 2133 cc DOHC 20-valve turbo five, low mileage and complete history. Not a federalized-then-engine-tuned US car, and emphatically not a long-wheelbase Ur-Quattro converted to Sport bodywork.

Know the real one
The defining identity is the short wheelbase: 2204 mm, cut 320 mm (12.6 in) from the standard Ur-Quattro coupe. The instant SWB tells are the two rear side windows, the shorter doors, and the steeper, more upright windscreen adopted for rally visibility.
About 214 were produced from 1984 to 1986, roughly 200 sold to the public to meet Group B's 200-car homologation rule with around 20 retained by Audi Sport for works use and spares. New price was near DM 203,850 (~$80,000), roughly double a standard Quattro.
It uses aluminium and Kevlar composite panels over the shortened shell and an all-alloy 2133 cc 20-valve turbo five, the first road Audi with a 20-valve turbo five. US-market cars were privately federalized (Andial / Dieter Inzenhofer); several were later engine-tuned by Heinz Lehmann to 400+ hp, which compromises originality.
Spotting a lesser car: reject long-wheelbase Ur-Quattros converted to Sport bodywork ('Shorty' replicas trade at auction) and works S1 / S1 E2 rally cars, which are not road-spec. A genuine road car carries the WAUZZZ85Z VIN prefix with matching chassis and engine numbers; unmolested, low-mileage, matching-numbers examples command the premium.
